Drugs & Alcohol

Safer York Partnership is a combined Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and Drug and Alcohol Action Team. Our local action plans have been developed considering the outcomes of the following strategies:

  • The National Drugs Strategy
  • The Tackling Drugs Together Strategy
  • The National Alcohol Strategy
  • The York and North Yorkshire Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy

Our plans focus on working in partnership - including work with the Drug and Alcohol Action Team and Young Persons Substance Misuse Group, to improve information and support a change in culture to reduce the harm caused by binge drinking and substance misuse.

Our priorities include better identification and treatment of alcohol misuse, tackling alcohol related crime and disorder and improving services to victims and witnesses.

Through the Nightsafe Task Group, we will deliver the objectives of the National Safe, Sensible and Social Alcohol Policy, tackling problem premises, protecting young people and focusing on those who cause most harm in their communities. We will aim to create an environment that promotes sensible drinking and reduces the harm caused by alcohol and substance misuse.

The reduction of alcohol and substance misuse is seen as a cross cutting theme across all of our priority areas and is not exclusive to the night time economy.
