York police licensing unit work throughout City of York to minimise all crime and disorder at, and associated with, licensed venues. The team scrutinises all applications for new licences or to vary existing licences, and work with applicants to improve the safety and minimise the impact of their applications.
York police licensing unit monitor crime and disorder at all licensed premises in the area and target premises causing disproportionate issues on multi-agency enforcement campaigns and visits. Should a premises continue to cause significant crime and disorder the department will use their powers under the Licensing Act 2003 to restrict opening hours, impose more stringent operating restrictions or even close the venue.
The department also works with the Security Industry Authority to ensure door supervisors working in the city are fully trained and complying with all relevant legislation, so they may continue to provide a safe and effective presence.
