Burglary

Work with Second Hand Dealers
This project has been developed in partnership with City of York Council Trading Standards department. Its aim is to block this route for use by criminals for disposal of stolen goods and involves the majority of second-hand dealers in York.
Under the scheme all participating dealers received refresher training on their requirements under the North Yorkshire County Council Act 1991 which relates to accurate recording of those selling and buying goods.
In addition, Safer York Partnership funded dealers’ access to Check Mend. Check Mend is aligned to IMMOBILISE, the national property register, and allows dealers to check if goods have been reported lost or stolen before taking receipt of them.
North Yorkshire Police, via Trading Standards, regularly provide participating dealers with lists of stolen goods thought to be in circulation.
