Alleygating

Alleygating can be and has been one of the most effective tools at reducing burglary in the City of York. As York is a historic city it means there are a number of suburbs that have been built and designed with various alleyways, cut-throughs or ginnels. This has meant that in some areas burglars have been able to find a number of opportunities to commit crime. Alleygating is where lockable gates are put on the ends of the alleyway to restrict access to the general public and provide security for the households behind the gates. Alleygating has been used as a long-term target hardening solution to reduce crime.

Thank you for your comments Peter and we really hope people do like the work we're doing for them and understand how the alleygates will help reduce crime in their area.
