ALTN8 2009

The campaign was launched on the weekend beginning Friday 5th June 2009 and was complemented by a diary of activities aimed at reducing drink and drug related harm.

Once launched, the message was sustained and continued to be delivered by a number of methods and partners, in order to address alcohol misuse and promote sensible drinking. A key technique was the use of a Media Van in the City Centre for every ALTN8 weekend, which played promotional videos to highlight the main messages.

ALTN8 was run on Friday and Saturday nights, from 6pm to 2am every weekend until the finale on the 28th and 29th August, with the exception of major Race Weekends.

Officers were patrolling the city in high visibility, undertaking licensed premises checks. Officers were encouraged to engage with the public both in and out of pubs, bars and clubs. 2 PCSOs and supporting partners were at St Helen’s Square with the mobile police office (MPO) and media van. From here they were able to provide free water, safety bags, condoms and maps of the city to members of the public.

Youth Services with Urbie Bus were stationed on Piccadilly to engage with young people in town, providing health and safety advice, as well as promoting ALTN8 message.
