Miss Dorothy

The overall objective of Miss Dorothy is for schools to have in place a resource for dealing with Domestic Abuse. Back in 2005, the York Domestic Abuse Forum agreed that an education pack should be included in all schools in the City of York. This later became a priority for the Local Authority. The York Domestic Abuse Forum considered lots of resource, some hard hitting, which we felt inappropriate and wanted to educate young children on what a healthy relationship is, how to stay safe, how to report and what happens when they report.

The York Domestic Abuse Forum (YDAF) www.ydaf.org looks at the 3 Ps in relation to Domestic Abuse these being:

• Prevention
• Protection
• Provision

Prevention is where Miss Dorothy sits and in the long-tem it has a huge impact in breaking the cycle of domestic abuse.
